OSHA and ABC Construction Leaders for Safety (CLAS) Partnership
The Southeast Pennsylvania Chapter Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. (ABC) participates in a partnership agreement with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Allentown and Philadelphia area offices. ABC and OSHA both recognize the importance of providing a safe and healthy work environment for construction employees throughout Southeast Pennsylvania. ABC and OSHA entered into one of the first such partnership agreements in the country in 2001. The partnerships help foster mutual trust and respect for the roles each organization plays in insuring a safe construction work environment.
The Partnership provides incentives to contractors that voluntarily participate in ABC’s Safety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) program and demonstrate superior levels of performance. The STEP program, implemented annually by the ABC, is an objective tool that contractor members use to evaluate and strengthen their safety programs, policies and procedures. ABC recognizes participants based on their level of achievement with their management of safety programs, policies and procedures. The four recognition levels are Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.
